Paint your own pot made by our potters!
Want to dip your toes in ceramics? This is the perfect gateway - painting your own designs on something someone else has handmade, just for you!
You’ll be sent a paint your own kit with your choice of a mug or planter, made by our resident potters. Simply paint with our palette, then drop back to us for firing (after lockdown). It’ll be microwave and dishwasher safe!
What's in a kit?
Your pot and colour palette - couriered directly to your door.
Instructional video - with our lovely Clay Sydney tutors.
Firing of your pieces once they're finished, or help finding a local kiln- Simply drop it off at our Victoria Road Studio, Marrickville, or if you’re out of area, we’ve a long list of Pottery Pals around Australia who will be able to help you for a small fee. Too easy.
Please note, as result of the lockdown, we are currently CLOSED for firings. Your ceramics are perfectly fine to dry out in the meantime! There’s no rush between finishing your pieces and bringing them to be fired..so please hold tight! We’ll update our website with drop off info as soon as restrictions ease :)
What's Underglaze?
Underglaze is a bit like paint, made of special minerals, applied with a paint brush before firing to add colour. You use underglaze, rather than just glaze, when you want to make mark-making, or “illustrative” patterns. After the first firing, a clear glaze (which is just a really thin layer of glass) is applied on top, and fired for a second time. When finished, your piece is permanently coloured, and ready for use!
What colours will I get?
We’ve so many colours in on our shelves, that you may not receive the exact colours pictured. It’s a surprise!
How will I know what to do?
Just watch our how-to video!
How much do I need?
One palette should be enough for two people to illustrate their work.
Can't I just use my own paints?
Unfortunately, no. Ceramics are fired (heated) to incredibly high temperatures - 1220 degrees in our case. Regular paints will not survive the process, and will atomise and burn away to nothing.
